What is Duplex Stainless steel?
Stainless steel is available in many grades and qualities. Different grades of stainless steel are manufactured for varying applications and not all stainless steel grades are suitable for all applications. Below are the most common grades of stainless steel.
AUSTENITIC grades: Non Magnetic. High resistance to corrosion.
204.High strength, cheaper to manufacture.
304. The most common type of stainless steel used. High strength, versatile, available in the widest range of products.
316. better corrosion resistance than 304. Versatile and commonly welded, rolled and cut. Very strong due to the Austenitic structure.
FERRITIC grades. Magnetic. Commonly used in the automotive industry, industrial machinery and kitchen utensils.
430. The most common Ferritic stainless steel used today.
DUPLEX grades. (or called AUSTENITIC-FERRITIC). Duplex stainless steel consists of two phases of both Austenitic and ferritic stainless steel grains. High resistance to corrosion in particular stress cracking corrosion. Twice the design strength of Austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. Perfect for hot water boilers, tanks, brewing and swimming pool equipment.
2205. Also know as S31803 and S32205. Grade 2205 is becoming more popular in high quality and specialist hot water storage tanks, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, tubes and pipes .
